What Is SprayTanning? Spray tanning, also known as airbrush tanning, is a process by which dihydroxyacetone (DHA) solution is airbrushed. Sunless tanning solutions contain DHA, an ingredient approved by the FDA, which reacts with the natural amino acids in the top layer of your skin, producing the best looking sunless bronze tan. The pigments resulting from a spray tan do not provide UV protection. With most solutions the deepest tan color is reached within about 12 hours, so the color will continue to darken after the initial application. The tanning solution also has a bronzer in it that provides an immediate effect. Most of this added bronzer will come off in the first shower after the initial application.
How Long Will The Typical Spray Tanning Last? An airbrush tan fades just like a tan from the sun. Depending upon an individual's rate of exfoliation, spray tans usually last anywhere from a week to ten days. The use of moisturizers will result in longer lasting tans.
How Should I Prepare For A Spray Tan? For the best results your skin should be clean and free from all moisturizers, make-up and deodorants. Lotions and make-up may block pores and prevent the tanning solutions from reaching and reacting with the skin. It is best to be freshly showered on the night prior to, or the morning of you tanning session.
What Should I Wear To A Spray Tanning Session? You can wear whatever you feel comfortable in, but lower undergarments are required.
